Fresh Perspectives, Familiar Values: Introducing the New Management Team

Since May 2025, uib GmbH has a new management team. We, Jan Werner and Bardo Wolf, are pleased to briefly introduce ourselves in this article. At the same time, we would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt thanks to our predecessors.

With Passion and Vision

A Thanks to Dr. Detlef Oertel and Erol Ülükmen

For many years, uib GmbH was led by Dr. Detlef Oertel and Erol Ülükmen, sometimes as a team and at times individually. They made a lasting impact on the company and played a key role in establishing uib GmbH as a trusted provider of the open source device management system opsi. Their ideas, dedication, and technical expertise fueled the continuous development of OPSI and helped build our strong and loyal community.

Both have decided to step down from their roles for personal reasons. We sincerely thank them for their many years of trusted collaboration and would like to express our deep appreciation for all they’ve achieved. Their commitment created the foundation we are fortunate to build upon today. On behalf of the entire company: thank you, Detlef and Erol.

From Developer to Managing Director

A Conversation with Dr. Jan Werner

I joined the uib team in 2019 and have since contributed in many areas—software development and planning, training (especially on packaging), and customer support. I’m responsible for components such as opsi-script, opsi-client-kiosk, opsi-quickinstall, as well as several smaller projects.

In my new role as Managing Director, I’m looking forward to continuing the technical evolution of OPSI together with our team. My focus is not just on individual features, but on shaping OPSI into a robust, open source system that remains future-ready. It is important to me that we stay in close contact with our community and customers, and that we actively listen to their needs.

One key step for the near future is to offer OPSI as a cloud-based SaaS solution in addition to the traditional on-premises setup. This will give our users greater flexibility and open up new possibilities for how OPSI can be deployed.

Experience Meets Responsibility

A Conversation with Dr. Bardo Wolf, Co-Founder of uib GmbH

To me, OPSI is much more than a software. I’ve been involved with the project since the very beginning and have witnessed its growth up close. What I truly value is the strong connection with our community and with the many people who have helped shape OPSI over the years. The fact that OPSI is an open source project built with professional standards and real-world usability in mind still makes it something special to me.

Taking on the responsibility of managing the company together with Jan is a meaningful step that I approach with a deep sense of commitment. Over the years, uib has given me a great deal of trust, freedom, and the opportunity to balance work and family. I deeply appreciate that. With this new role, I want to give something back—to the company, to the team, and to our users. I see it as part of my mission to preserve and support what has always made us strong: trust, teamwork, and a close relationship with our user base.

What helps me in this new position is the daily, direct contact with our customers. Whether through support, training, or consultations, I regularly hear what challenges they face and what they really need. This practical feedback helps us make well-informed decisions and continue developing OPSI in ways that genuinely meet our users’ needs.

Looking Ahead Together

Together, we are committed to keeping OPSI open source at its core. At the same time, we want to support the professional use of OPSI with high-quality services, support, and extensions. Our goal is to respond quickly and effectively to the evolving demands of device management while maintaining strong connections with our customers and partners.

We’re excited about what lies ahead, and we look forward to continued collaboration, new developments, and sharing our enthusiasm for OPSI with even more people.

In that spirit: Stay opsified—or become opsified!

Warm regards,
Dr. Jan Werner and Dr. Bardo Wolf
